Karen Johnson from Jackson, MI sent in the following idea!! I thought it was REALLY a great one, so
I asked her if I could post it! She was "sweet" enough to let me :o) THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH Karen!!!

A male family quartet is going to sing a short concert (they usually sing good ol' songs that
anyone can enjoy). Then we are going to have short speeches/talks from four of our own ladies
on these topics (speaking from their own experiences):
- How sweet it is to be a GRANDMOTHER.
- How sweet it is to be a MOTHER.
- How sweet it is to be a DAUGHTER.
- How sweet it is to be a CHILD OF GOD.
I decided on that last one because there are usually visiting unchurched family members
attending and wouldn't it be wonderful (or sweet) to have them learn of Christ's love for
them and that it is sweet to be a child of God.
I'm still thinking about the table decorations. Some ideas I'm playing around with include
jars of honey, homemade jam, maple syrup and other "sweet" things. I also thought about lilies.
I'd like to incorporate the song "I'd Rather Have Jesus".
I might print up the verse that talks about He's fairer than lilies of rarest bloom, He's sweeter
than honey from the honeycomb . .
I'm also thinking of asking in the church newsletter for framed generational pictures to put on
the tables. We will have many tables to decorate which makes it tricky as far as cost and how
many of certain items can be found or purchased.
As far as our menu, we're thinking about getting lasagna,
garden salad, and sheet cakes from Sam's. Then bread from another place.
I'm going to have some volunteers make up batches of mac-N-cheese for the kiddos.
Last year for the "salad only" banquet I decided that my offering would be kid-friendly and
I took a bunch of dixie cups filled with applesauce (so it wouldn't soak into everything else
on the plate). I think we'll have that for kids, too. Then have volunteers bring home-made
chocolate chip cookies. Whoever ends up making something to bring won't have to pay.
