Wedding theme: We had ladies volunteer to bring in their wedding gowns (men didn't know it) which we used for decoration. We hung the gowns from the ceiling on wide ribbon so they just touched the floor and then fluffed the trains etc. and put white lights on the floor around the dress. We had a game where the ladies who brought their dress stood up and then the men who belonged to those women had to try to identify their wife's dress. It was a riot.

In that theme, we have asked for people to relay their wedding bloopers, answer questions such as who has been married longest, etc., even bring in love letters for us to read and for those attending to guess who wrote the letter to whom. We've had people relay their most interesting date.

Icebreakers-We bought wooden hearts and painted them and wrote the candy heart sayings on them (appropriate ones for a church function!) and then cut them into 4 pieces. Each person gets one piece of the heart when they arrive (you need to have the same number of pieces as guests). The trick then is to find the other people who hold the rest of your heart.

We had couples give us their wedding date which we compiled into one list. Each person arriving got a copy and then the challenge was to find out who was married when. (This was especially interesting since there were some new people to our church who were older, but only married a few years so everyone assumed they were one of the earlier wedding dates on the page.)

Games: We have played a game where a husband and wife team had to work together to wrap a present, only each had to have 1 hand tied behind their back.

Guess the nose/foot game: We use a curtain to hide 4 women. All you can see is their nose poking through a seam. Husbands need to identify their wife by her nose. Likewise, men get behind the curtain and remove a sock and shoe. The wife identifies their husband by their foot.

We call the newlywed game, the trulywed game. Your questions are great!

Identify the wedding items game: This game is a riot, but requires prior planning. We have a section of board that we clamp between two tables. The tables are covered with a table cloth and a skirt is put around the tables. The board has a hole big enough for a head to go through. We usually use these tables for our buffet so no one suspects anything. At game time, we remove the food and place 7 objects under wrapped boxes on the tables. The men and women are put into 2 different rooms. They think it is a timed game, men vs. women. However, the man is stationed beneath the table with his head through the hole and a box over his head. The wife is given the command to find the 4 objects you would have at your wedding in the quickest time. Of course, one of the items is her husband, but she doesn't know it. We use a bouquet, a ring bearers pillow, etc.

We are going to try a new game this year where we have several couples that have to race each other to finish eating a bowl of jello. Only problem is that their spoons are tied together with a very short piece of string so cooperation will be the key!
