welcome

This page is dedicated to the many pastor's wives that labor tirelessly to serve others, and most importantly her husband.   I was asked to come up with a page of hints and poems for honoring Pastor's Wives.   May God bless as you seek to honor "the Pastor's Wife"!

I recently had a lady named Shannon Porter sign my guestbook with the following note. I think it is AWESOME!!!! Way to go Shannon!

Her Note:

"I am the coordinator for a Woman to Woman Mentoring group at our church and also under my direction is a new group (in our 2nd year) called Pastor's Wives Care Group. Since we have 6 pastor's wives in our church of 1600 people, we wanted to serve them. They give so much, mostly enabling their husbands to serve the body of Christ. We had our 2nd luncheon today for them and their "Angels" That's what we call the caregivers in charge of seeing what they need and trying to meet their felt needs. We have had wonderful response from the wives saying they feel so loved and cared for and appreciated. One wife said she went to a pastor's wives retreat with all pastors wives and told them what we do for them and they were all pressing her for details on how they could get their congregations to see the needs and start something like that for them. We do various things to help them, child care, housecleaning once a month (this has just been set up with a couple cleaning teams), this year we gave them each a pedicure certificate and flowers as well as a luncheon with their angels and the ministry team. It was a fun time to tell them and show them how much we appreciate their sacrifice. We make sure they are remembered for their birthdays and Anniversaries and even special occasions with cards, flowers or a special lunch with their "Angel". We would love to be able to get this information to other churches or women's groups that would be interested, but don't have it in manual form or anything that is duplicatable (Is that a word?) It looks like your plate is very full as a PW and we applaude you for all you do!!

Sincerely, Shannon Porter..."

Our Pastor

Who is it calls when we are ill
With cheerful words and right good will,
And lingers gently then to pray
And soothe our care and fear away?
Our Pastor!

Who is it comes when sorrow falls,
When death of friends our heart appalls,
And tells us of mansions fair,
And that sweet home, "just over there"?
Our Pastor!

Who is it shares our happiest hours,
When life is crowned with wedding flowers,
And to the scene lends added grace
By reverent voice and kindly face?
Our Pastor!

Who is it on the Lord's day
Points to Heaven and leads the way,
And brings a message from the Word,
Until our hearts within are stirred?
Our Pastor!

For whom then shall we daily pray
And ask for him God's grace alway,
And wish for him a glad new year,
With new-born souls his heart to cheer?
Our Pastor!

~ The Preacher's Wife ~

In the shadow of the parsonage
Stands a figure oft obscure.
Just behind the faithful pastor
Is his wife, devout and pure.
She is with him every moment
Helping make his work progress,
And you can't discount her portion
In the measure of success.
Oft behind the scene of action,
Often never seen or heard,
Yet she stands forever ready
Just to give a helping word.
It is not in active service
That her worth is really shown,
But in the bearing heavy burdens
That to others are unknown.
With encouragement and vision
She must urge God's servant on,
When the shadows are the darkest
And his courage's almost gone.
With her home forever open
And her work quite never done,
She is ever his lieutenant
In the battles fought and won.

~ The Preacher's Wife ~

Our preacher is a man of God,
He truly loves the Lord;
He gives the greatest sermons,
His congregation's never bored.

He quotes the scriptures without looking,
He shares the Good Book without end;
He knows each member of the church,
And calls each one his friend.

He constantly is working,
Both at the church and in his home;
He is very dedicated,
And spends much time with Christ alone.

He spends hours on his sermons,
Which are truly God inspired;
He works almost around the clock,
And is often worn and tired.

While we give him due respect and love,
His wife is often missed;
Though a sweet and caring, loving soul,
She's not always on our list.

Oh what a shame ... we lose so much,
For this woman's full of love;
And when our preacher married her,
Was he not directed from above?

While our preacher is God's shepherd,
His wife excels in little lambs;
We need her just as much as him,
All this is per God's plan.

She stands behind her husband,
Like a shadow, ever there;
Like fresh air, always needed,
Of which no one is aware.

She will put her arms around him,
When he is down and blue;
Why comfort him, this man of God?
Because he's human, too.

She performs her mundane duties,
Like pressing clothes and washing shirts;
Because she is so eager,
To have him look just right at church.

When services are over,
And he is waiting by the door;
We shake his hand and thank him,
Sometimes she's smilingly ignored.

She never seeks attention,
But is content to aid and serve;
With a quiet consecration,
She hold her talents in reserve.

So, all you members of the church,
What I am trying hard to tell ...
That when God chose this preacher's wife,
‘Twas for the rest of us, as well.

Show that you appreciate her,
At the church door, shake her hand;
Hug her around her shoulders,
And behind her, take your stand.

I Am the Preacher's Wife
by Diane Pellin

I am the woman who proudly sits in the shadows as her husband stands in the light.  I am the one who knows her husband is a gift from God, and so I give him back to my Lord through his full-time service.   Often times, I am so lonely for him because I share him with others.

But I am also pleased that he gives of himself so unselfishly. I am the one who encourages the preacher when others sometimes fail to. I am the one who listens to his dreams for the church and helps him look into the future and see his dreams become a reality.

And when others wonder if he really cares, I am the one who sees him on his knees, shedding tears for the future of the Lord's church.
